Well, I put a new quilt on the frames. I think this one is going to take a while. It is about 86" square. I was trying to think of ways to make it not seem so monotonous. I thought maybe choosing 3 or more different colored quilting threads might make it interesting. But, my husband (who normally has absolutely no opinions on anything I quilt) convinced me it would be distracting and not add anything to the quilt. He's right of course. So I'm in for the long haul.
I haven't really come up with a name for this quilt though it reminds me of the scripture in Isaiah 1:18.
My daughter #2 and I put Grandma's curtains up in the living room. I love how it looks. And we rearranged the furniture. It seems so much bigger now. I had the piano and an antique organ on the far wall. The organ went to my daughter#2 who has a degree in organ performance and the piano went to my youngest son. That picture on the far wall was centered over the piano and now should be moved over the center of the couch. But, I keep thinking I might want to do something else with the open space on the right. I thought about hanging a quilt but there is already a quilt in the room. (see below)
I need to do something to make the room more cozy - warm it up a little. Any suggestions?
As I'm going through things because that's what I do in January. I noticed this darling picture of my mother and her sister. My mother is the one on the left with the over-the-top bonnet on. She was 2 yrs. old.
I decided to get it out and enjoy it for January. It's on my hutch.
I thought I'd share this cute picture that was a gift to me for Christmas. It is supposed to represent our family including our little one that passed away (flew the coop). It is a sweet reminder of everyone.
I am having a hard time coming up with a new project. This has never happened before. When I sit down I am itching for some handwork and I suppose I could get out an applique block I started but it's on hold because I can't make a decision on what should go in the corners.
I really liked the scrap quilt Quiltmania tried to do last year. All the patterns are online. But when I started with the first block that is just four-patches and HSTs and it didn't come out to size I decided I didn't want to fuss with the French/English - inches/cm and I'd move on to something else. I need a project that's not going to give me grief.
It is so cold inside today. I made myself some cocoa to try and warm up. I'm always trying a different cocoa and right now the thing that tastes the best is regular instant cocoa with 2 generous squeezes of Hershey's chocolate syrup. (and miniature marshmallows, of course)
We had a funeral last Saturday and I was at the church from 9:30 till 3:45. We served crockpot soup, rolls, cookies, and had a Hot Chocolate Bar. Going to the cemetery for the dedication of the grave chilled everyone and they were pleased to return to a warm meal.
Well, I've rambled on long enough. Keep inside if you can and stay warm.

Maybe you could do something with red and white quilting thread? Red on red or red on white and white on white or white on red? That's not very adventurous but it's also not just one color....
The curtains let in so much light. They are beautiful. I have heard that moving furniture away from walls makes a room cozy but the arrangement you have does look spacious. I'm not good at arranging furniture.
What an adorable photo of your mom and her sister.
You may be experiencing a touch of the dreaded "January Funk" which I have right now too. ;(((
I am trying to just do a little bit of sewing per day and spend more time on re-organizational things throughout the house. And puzzling, of course;))))
In your lovely room how about stacking some of your beautiful quilts on a chest or draping a few about on furniture? I also like to use candles to warm things up...but I am not big on decorating, so just little things...have fun strewing things about ;))) hugs, Julierose

definitely another quilt....ramps up cozy several notches...the curtains are so lovely and glad you put them up to enjoy...that is their purpose anyway...
Well, the quilt on the wall is beautiful and commands attention so maybe in your January diggings find some other pics or photos for the wall by the couch? It can be a mix of several. The red quilt on the frame should satisfy your urging for a new project for awhile! It's gorgeous.
Love your little family bird picture. Very sweet idea! And your red and white quilt will look excellent with one color thread, but yes, quite the monotonous time having it in the hoop! It's nice getting things changed around. Seems to help us appreciate the space once again.:)
Gosh your quilt is a beauty!! I love seeing old photographs they have such softness of colour, the bonnet is huge but a delight to see.
Of course you can always add another quilt to the room to ramp up the cozy factor. The curtains also add to the ambiance just as you thought they would. The new quilt in the frame is gorgeous and the loft and coziness of the hand quilting is going to be exceptional. Maybe you can include the scripture verse on the label when the quilt is completed. How long does it typically take for you to hand quilt one this size?
Hi Robin. It's been a busy month and I haven't read blogs much. Trying to catch some tonight and I came to your recent post and scrolled back to see what else has been going on. I couldn't resist adding a comment here. I think you are right to stick to one thread color on the red/white quilt, but I understand the tedium of just seeing red and white constantly as you work. My mom used to draw a sketch of her quilt, and divide it into sections. Depending on her schedule, she would decide to do a section a day, or give herself 3 or 4 days if she was really busy. As she finished each section she would color over it with red pencil. She said that motivated her to keep going and gave her satisfaction to color a completed section. I just print a photo of the finished top, put it on a clipboard, and use a red pen to put an X through each finished block.
I LOVE your grandmother's curtains in your living room. They look lovely. You've had some good suggestions for warming up the room. I have looked at the photos you posted and had a few ideas, but I wouldn't do all of them--just choose any that click for you. My first thought was greenery. I love plants to make a room feel homey. I have about 10 in my big living room, but just 2 in my small TV room. If you don't have a green thumb, silk plants do the trick. Instead of centering the framed art over your sofa, you could do a grouping of pictures, using different sizes--family photos, and ancestor photos (the photo of your mom and her sister is priceless) would mix nicely with pictures of the Savior. I actually have a grouping of pictures in my living room just of the Savior, in sepia tones, with a couple of framed scriptures in the mix. Others have suggested another quilt, or a stack of them. I do think a lap sized quilt would look good draped over either of your chairs. Or you could put a large basket on the floor in front of the lower right-hand corner of your hanging quilt, and roll up a few quilts and tuck them into the basket. Another idea is a pretty rug in front of your sofa. Can you tell I watch way too many home reno shows as I work in my sewing room? LOL
It is a beautiful room, and your quilt looks so good in there.
Love the little bird family on the branch. Is it made from pieces of sea glass?
Oh, I have been drinking way too much hot chocolate this cold winter. I have really enjoyed the Land O' Lakes mint, or raspberry, or french vanilla (which is not white chocolate--just regular hot chocolate with a lovely French vanilla twist). And I have also been making a couple of different vegan sipping chocolate recipes that have been very creamy and delicious.
Okay--I should have just sent you an email. ;)
