I finished hand quilting my red & white quilt. I started quilting it in January and it was a tough slog through quilting the same colors and shapes over and over. Finally I decided to figure out how long it would take me to finish the quilt if I did a certain amount of squares per day - 6 days a week. I figured out it would still take 8 weeks but I was determined. I didn't miss a day and now it's thankfully done. I really like the quilt I just didn't enjoy quilting it.
I'm currently "Big Stitch" quilting this quilt and I got the center done last week. Sorry I don't have a better picture and it looks pretty dull following the previous picture. You can't see it but this quilt is filled with major "Franken-batting" It took a long time to put it together - so many pieces.
I've decided I want to make something with all my Blackbird Designs scraps and yardage. And the thing I've decided to do is a hexagon quilt that has big splashes of color all through it. It's hard to describe but I've made a start below.
So, as you can see, I haven't posted for a while but I'm just as busy as ever.

wow...so many pretty projects....love those birds...and your mystery colors are perfect....always feels good to finish a big quilt...busy indeed!
Congratulations on finishing your red and white quilt, it's a beauty! Such a good feeling to finish a bed-size quilt by hand. I love your perky birds top too. Reminiscent of our Bramble Blooms quilt tops from Audrey's challenge last year.
I had no doubt you were staying busy, Robin. And since I go so long between posts, I don't question anyone else's pace! :)
Love what you have created so far on the bird quilt. Have you considered putting hearts in the corners? You could put them diagonally with the point of the heart facing into the center of the quilt. They could echo the center hearts in color and size, but placement would be different. Just a thought.
I hear you on the "same old, same old-ness" of 2 color quilts. Love the look, but I get starved for color variety while working on them! It is a beautiful finish!
Loving the "Southwest" colors project.
I have not had the patience to go too extreme with Frankenbatting. If I can't assemble it with 3 pieces or less, I save those smaller pieces for mini quilts. Just because I'm a lazy quilter.
You have me curious now about your new hexie project.
What a fun quilt, Robin! The bird (birds!) in the center is/are delightful. You are so creative!
Your red and white quilt is beautiful. "Slog" is just how I feel about stitching blocks for and quilting a two-color quilt, especially when both colors are the same fabric for every block. But gosh, the results are always gorgeous. Good for you to figure out a schedule, then stick to it for a finish.
Bound Together will be such a bright, happy quilt.
I've stitched pieces of batting together on the machine, overlapping the edges and straight-stitching. I can never tell where those seams are. It takes a while but it's great to use the batting instead of throwing it away.
The Blackbird Designs fabrics are so beautiful! You'll turn them into a gorgeous quilt.
