Just checkin' in

I finally got started on another block for When The Wind Blows by Blackbird Designs  It is the Holly Block.  I've auditioned numerous fabrics on this block and have had to reject them after they are cut.  It just didn't look right.  I've got 3 more stems to press and then I can start applying everything.  This is block # 7 (although #5, the center, hasn't been made yet).  This block goes in the lower left.

Still working every afternoon on Sweet Land of Liberty.  I've been surprised that I can work on this all afternoon and my wrist doesn't hurt.  Now, if I put this in the frames and start quilting on it, I would only last about 90 minutes.  I think there is more small hoop quilting in my future.

I can't remember if I posted about this or not.  It is from the pattern "Plaidish" by Kitchen Table Quilting.  The free pattern is here.  It was such a fun little quilt to make.  I learned a lot about value in this quilt.  There are pieces that I considered light that were probably medium etc.

I also found another free pattern that I am anxious to make.  It is at Butterfly Threads Quilting/Diane Knott.  And you can find that pattern here.  I'm sure most of you have seen these patterns already but they are new to me and I really like them.

We had a very cool night last night.  September usually teases me into thinking summer is gone and then just when I am convinced, it gets hot again.  So we'll see how this plays out this year.

The plaid quilt is so cool - I love it! Thank you for pointing us in the direction of the pattern. Quilters are great!

You always have such lovely projects--this Holly block is beautiful--great color choices you ended up with. I often page through that book and dream of maybe trying one block for a medallion...nice work hugs, Julierose

Ooooh I love your applique work. I think the colors you chose for the holly block are great! I love that urn fabric! I had forgotten I had the Plaidish pattern here and now you've inspired me! I love your Plaidish Quilt! I love the one from Butterfly Threads too and thank you so much for sharing it! Have a wonderful and safe day!

I have seen Plaidish a time or two, and I am always drawn to it. However, the number of UFOs languishing in my sewing room makes me resist. I may have to save the pattern for a future date, though. Yours looks great!
Your beautiful applique, and diligent hand quilting makes me feel like a sloth! :)

You have several good projects to work on and I admire that you can keep them all moving along. A vase of holly leaves is a unique design. Such fun to appliqué just a bit differently. Good luck with your colors.

I too like Plaidish - it's a very clever design. I like using a hoop and I have a theory that it allows my wrist to be at slightly different angles rather than always in exactly the same position. Certainly I seem to be able to quilt for a long time without problems.

Some very good projects! Your Plaidish is so lovely. Lots of fun to play with values! I love using a smaller hoop in my lap. Much easier on me than a large floor hoop.

I don't think I have actually seen the applique quilt by another so it is really nice to see yours. I know the book has been around for awhile but I'm surprised I haven't seen more versions of this quilt.

Seeing your progress on Sweet Land of Liberty makes me want to finish mine. One of these months/years.... I quilted only once on a floor frame, before I knew anything about quilting, really, but it seemed so hard. When I finally began quilting, I was thrilled with the comfort and easy of quilting in hoop. I like being able to angle and turn the hoop to make it easier to quilt.
I like your color palette for When the Wind Blows. It looks like the blocks take lots of time --and will be very worth it in the end.

Top is finished

I finished the Wisconsin quilt top.  That border is just so lovely.  It is from a line called "Riverbanks" by Jeanne Horton.  I h...
