Bramble Blossoms part 1

Bramble Blossoms is a Sew along by Audrey at quiltyfolk.  She is starting this month and it will continue for at least a year.  It will be improv style with both piecing and applique.

I'm having a terrible time coming up with a fabric stack for this SAL.  I collected these yesterday but there are still other bins and shelves and boxes to look in to come up with something that feels cohesive.  So, having trouble coming up with ONE stack makes me think I'll worry about the other two stacks from my stash way ................................ down the line.

This is what I came up with for my center.  It measures 20" X 22".  An odd size but I can always add borders or trim it down to fit, right?

I finished this scrap quilt top about a month ago.  It's all from my stash.  It is a pattern by Terry Clothier Thompson.  I was nervous about that one bright red when all the rest of the fabrics are darker or duller.  But, I think it turned out great.

I've been working on an old Halloween cross stitch project.  I think it's about 5 years old.  I used waste canvas so even though the stitching is done, I need to pull out all the strings of canvas - cringe.

I tied two 60" X 72" flannel quilts for my youngest grandsons (ages 5 and 3) this week.  I neglected to take a picture of them finished but here is a couple of pictures in progress.

The quilts have the same backing.  It is a white background doggy flannel print.  You can see it if you look under the table.  My DIL is showing how much red yarn I had left over.  It was a little too close for comfort.  I tied the quilt on the table with black yarn.

Staying busy,

Robin

Yes, the brighter red was a great spark for your scrap quilt! Congrats on a wonderful finish.:) Love your centerpiece! I'm such a sucker for lovely cream fabrics.

Your scrap quilt is a beauty! I love a scrappy quilt. Great start on the Bramble QAL. I am still dithering on my center panel. Your grandsons will love their quilts, are they for Christmas?

Robin I love that red in the scrap quilt, it gives it a lift! That doggie quilt is too cute! Kids love tied quilts and it was my grandmother's favorite method for juvenile quilts. Looks wonderful!

I really like your new scrappy quilt top. To my eye the colors and design evoke the American southwest, it's really beautiful. I've begun my fabric pull for the first of Audrey's QAL projects. Still need to brave the stash closet for more in the red or coral range and just know that bin is sure to be in the bottom most back corner!

I had a bit of trouble choosing fabrics for my. Bramble and Blooms QAL but I figure I can always add as we go

The red was such a wonderful addition to the quilt, well done! I'm tempted to join in with Audrey's BB project, seems like a good way to find some fabric I’ve been hoarding – who knows why - and cut it up.

Pulling fabrics is challenging. I wish you well getting a bunch that makes you happy.
That is an interesting quilt design by Terry Clothier Thompson. Kind of a Log Cabin meets Pineapple. But I do like that brighter red giving it a little pop.
Oh, you were playing yarn chicken there, weren't you?
Do you still have house guests? Ours moved back to their home yesterday, after 3 month. Their home isn't quite finished, but enough that they can make it work.

I like your fabric choices for the Brambles quilt-along, especially the peach/coral/melon range. I'm sure you'll get the fabrics sorted. I'm still debating about this QAL, though I've already been pondering colors and fabrics. Maybe I'll decide after she gives the next step.
Your newly-finished top looks great. The red adds just the right touch.
Your tied quilts look bright, cheerful, and fun. I can just imagine little boys cuddled up in these. Close call on the yarn--so glad you had enough.

I am joining Audrey's QAL and the fabric pull is really hard for me too--for some reason I really never have done this before to this extent...i am totally flying "blind"--but I hope to learn more about applique and making my own pattern from scratch...--hugs, Julierose

Hello Robin! I like your scrap quilt, the red is perfect.
And your center for Bramble Blooms looks just right I think, like you said you can either add to make it bigger or trim down.
You are staying busy.

You are right...that red belong in that scrap quilt. Fun quilts for the grandsons. I haven't tied a quilt in ages. I might have to keep that in mind. Been checking out what everyone is doing for the Bramble Blooms QAL. Fun stuff!

Everything is in bloom

I love geraniums.  I'm always looking for an unusual or different color, petal shape, or foliage shading. They just make me happy.   I&#...
