A sweet finish

I completed the hand quilting on my SAL with Gay Bommers of Sentinmental Stitches called Cheddarback.   My quilt is called Children's Corner (which I have mistakenly been calling Children's Hour) after a collection of pieces for children by Debussy.

Here is a (not very good) picture of the whole quilt.  I don't have anyone to hold it up for me right now and the ground is covered with frost outside so this is as good as it gets.  I'll get a better picture outside as the weather allows.

This is a picture of from the back side.  It is a bit dark because I wanted to show the quilting.

The picture below shows the true coloring.  I used the same fabric for binding.

I think I enjoyed every part of this quilt.  I enjoyed learning how to make new blocks, I loved deciding on fabrics.  I enjoyed hand quilting it too but, I've got a catch in my sit-down from quilting for 3 hrs. at a time.  I need to get up and move around more.  One of the hazards of quilting I guess.

I'm working on the applique for the top border of the house quilt.  It is going to take longer than I was hoping but it will be worth it.

The picture above shows how much I've prepped.  I ran out of pins (on that particular pin cushion) so I am sewing the left side and will continue on as the pins become available.  There is a section of the border that is overhanging on the right side of the table.  So, it is a larger than it shows.

Some signs of spring - the yellow crocus' are up with a grin in the front. The yellow ones always come up before the purple or white.  Yellow seems like a hearty color in nature.

I working on the quilt I call "Marshfield" using big stitch in cheddar colored pearl cotton (with a little red in the middle).  I like the way it is turning out and it goes together fast.  I've already turned one row under.  There is a picture of the full quilt on my right sidebar.

And, I'll leave you with what I was left with yesterday after two sweet little boys came for a visit.  I guess this house and my house will have to wait for another day to play.

Wow, what a beautiful quilt! I love your fabric choices (the red cornerstones, the touches of pink, the wide variety, just so lovely) and the fact that you hand quilted it really sends it over the edge into extra-special. What a sweet name for it too. Your appliqué prep looks great too! I see you are a Bernina girl and you have a great set up with the plexiglass insert. Nice!

Your new finish is simply fabulous! I love the backing/ binding fabric too. You're so right about us quilters needing to get up and move around more often. Sometimes I'll get up after a couple hours quilting in the evening and it takes a couple minutes before the back will even consider straightening up. Your applique is going to be a wonderful addition to the house quilt. Still waiting for some bright signs of spring!

Your Children's Corner is just delightful, Robin! I love the quilting patterns you've used, especially in the sashing strips. And the backing is perfect. Like you, I enjoyed every part of making this quilt, too.
Your red branches are so narrow! I'm looking forward to the next steps in this quilt.
When you quilt big stitch is it challenging to remember that you're not trying to make small stitches? And with big stitch, how does the thread weather the washer and dryer? I tried it once on a small quilt and gosh, the thread (I think it was DMC) shrank and puckered so much, and pulls even more with each wash and dry. Your

Congratulations on a momentous finish!!! Beautiful work! My Cheddarback top is still neatly folded in a tub. "A catch in my sitdown" made me smile :)

Well done on the Cheddarback, Robin! The hand quilting makes this truly a family heirloom. It is beautiful!
I cannot imagine prepping and stitching down all those vines. Wow! I like the fact that you didn't just use the same red fabric for all of it, bit have a sprinkling of some texture in there.
Such happy little flowers!
Your Big Stitch quilting looks very uniform and neat. The cheddar color of stitches makes a nice statement in the stars.
So many memories revolve around the Fisher Price house--from children to grandchildren. Simple pleasures!

Congratulations on a stunning finish! Children's Hour makes me imagine 1950s kids sitting around the radio, wrapped up in your lovely quilt.
