Bramble Blossoms Center Finish

This is supposed to represent hollyhocks.  I had a couple of great designs but everything was so complicated.  So, I gradually tried to simplify it and this what came together.

It's not quite what I had envisioned.   I have some fiddly centers all cut out and I may or may not sew them on.  I was ready to be done with the applique.  I should probably trim the background behind the blossoms so the stems don't show through.

It's very low volume.  Hmmm?

I sewed 7 full blossoms to represent my 7 children.  The light fabrics I chose didn't show up on my neutral background so I sewed the light blue circle behind them to contrast a little and introduce another color into the mix.

Now, I'm going to go look on the list on Audrey's blog to see what the rest of those participating in this SAL have created.

It's delightful, Robin! I really like the colors and I think the blue circle behind the flowers looks great.
I see lots of variety in the central motif of other participants. What fun! Sometimes I think, I wish I'd thought of that!
I finished my background yesterday and am working on my first flower today. It is too complicated and I may have to simplify, but I take encouragement from a comment Audrey made on someone's blog on Tuesday that there's still plenty of time till the next post about the quilt-along.

I love your hollyhocks just as they are! I think many of us tried to make our florals look like photographed flowers and we're finding out that simplification is better and definitely more achievable! So, two boys and five girls???? Hopefully I'll finally get a few uninterrupted hours (though I'd take minutes) to work on my effort in the next few days ...

Oh beautiful outcome on your center piece!! Mine is just basted and I will begin with the appliqueing this week--we are still in recuperation mode after hosting our Thanksgiving family gathering this year. A full sit-down dinner for so many took a lot out of us...likely it was our "last hurrah"---
hugs, Julierose

I think your hollyhocks are lovely! I love that you made seven for your seven children. What a great idea adding the blue circle so the lighter fabrics show up.

May not be quite what you had envisaged Robin but I like your design very much indeed. I like how you've set the hollyhocks on a circle, great idea!

I think the idea of the blue behind the flowers is great, and adds interest. My version also does not look like what was in my head , but I am enjoying myself immensely. I have three sunflowers, and will applique the last one today. It does you so much good to try something different, doesn't it, and Audrey is a huge inspiration.xx
