Sleeping under the Christmas Tree

I've made a little progress on my Christmas under the tree quilt center.  A strip of the tree garland and the picture on the wall are not sewn down yet.  The tree looks like it needs more ornaments but I have tried a few different ideas that didn't work out so, I'm going to wait till I have presents in front of the tree to decide what else it needs.  I tried buttons, and I cut a few small designs from other fabrics to be appliqued.  It just wasn't right.

We always do Charles Wysocki puzzles at Christmas time so when I found this scrap of Wysocki fabric. . . I had to make it into a picture.  At least it has snow and sleighs.

I'm uncertain what the rest of the quilt is going to look like.  I had thought about just doing a Double Star block in red, green, blue, and yellow but now I am feeling uncertain about that decision.  Maybe I just need to make sawtooth star blocks and call it good.  I also considered making small triangle tree blocks but that would not be the quickest option.  I'm having fun, that's what counts.

My husband got a cortisone shot for his hip last week.  Here he is reclining on the lounge in the waiting room at the pain center.  Notice he's wearing his slippers, gotta be comfortable, right?

My two youngest grandson's and I made a little snowman this week. The little boys were delighted.

We called him "Winky" because one of his eyes fell out.

Then we came inside because we were cold and had a real tea cocoa party.  We used my mother's old Franciscan Ware teapot and the little boys were so careful not to drop anything.  They both found out that the saucer does a really good job of catching all the slurps and spills.

You can't have too many marshmallows I always say. . .

Another fun event this week is that my granddaughter had her first fitting for toe shoes.

Last week she and her mother (my daughter) were visiting.  She was on her tablet in the living room and we were sewing at the kitchen table.  Her mother called to her and asked her to come in and tell me what she had coming up this week. She's quite an introvert and was reluctant to come in so her mother finally told me about the shoe fitting.  A quiet cheerful voice came from the living room, "You can come if your want to."

Well, there was no way I was going to refuse THAT invitation.  It was special to be part of something that is important to her.  She's a sweetheart!

Have a lovely week,

Robin

(310 days to get this Christmas quilt done.)

Christmas Tree block is so cute--love the Wysocki picture on the wall, too;)))
maybe little sequin snowflakes on the tree??? or French knots?
Are you going to make this a medallion style piece?
Looks like a fun cocoa party--I love that Franciscan ware...A good friend of mine has collected it through the years and I always think it is such a classic...the boys are so cute;)))

My grandma and Bruce's mother each had the same Franciscan pattern! We combined both sets and my daughter asked for it all. So it continues to live on.

Looks like everyone was having a good time - perhaps not your husband after his cortisone shot! As someone who attending ballet classes for many years as a youngster I enjoyed seeing your photograph of granddaughter being fitted for her toe shoes.,

Your center block is so sweet. That Wysocki fabric is a perfect touch, in homage to the puzzles at Christmas.
I hope the shot helped your husband. I had tried so many things, including shots in my spine (where the physiatrist believed my pain was originating), but when those failed, I had a shot in my hip last August, and I am still feeling the benefits.
Very cute snowman, with a fun name.
Those sweet little faces over the teapot made me smile. Somebody loves marshmallows. :)
And I have to add that my Mom had the rose pattern in the Franciscan Ware--and she never used it. My older sister, who was always trying to convince her to use it, got it after Mom passed.
I love that you were included in your granddaughter's big day.
I don't have a granddaughter ballerina--one did Hula (for 12 years), and the other is on about her 3rd year of Ninja Gym. Far cry from ballet. :)

Your Christmas blocks looks so great, Robin. I'm impress with your son's face in fabric! And I think the Wysocki "picture" is perfect! You framed it so beautifully.
I think it would be hard to decorate a fabric Christmas tree. You'll come up with ornaments one of these days.
Your poor husband. Is it arthritis or something else? I have arthritis in my knees and will have replacements sometime in the future. I tried a steroid injection (or maybe it was cortisone?) but it didn't help and have been having gel injections every six months for about two years. I hope the cortisone helped your husband!
Your little grandsons are so cute. What beautiful blue eyes!
How sweet that you were invited to your granddaughter's fitting for her first toe shoes.

I remember my first toe shoe fitting! How exciting that you were there to make it more of a milestone memory for all.

Summer meanderings.

I haven't posted much because I don't really have much to show or much to comment on.  But. here goes.  I sure haven't done much...
