January stitching

I've been working 6 days a week on my Cheddarback quilt (which I call Children's Hour).  There is still a bunch to do, It's  almost 3/5ths of the way complete.  The quilting is turning out to be interesting and fun.

Just a little picture of the spools I used up this year; 10 spools for hand quilting and machine piecing and 7 rings from DMC pearl cotton for big stitch quilting.  Not quite as productive as some years but better than others.

I'm making a red and white quilt using the house pattern.  I make about 2 blocks a day using mostly my stash.  I did buy some Kona Cotton in Christmas Red.  I think it's a bit dark (lower left) but it will balance out I'm sure.

This is the next block to be sewn.  I'm a little unsure about the floral.  It will be the only block with green in it.  I'll just have to make it up and see.  It's a pretty old floral by Alex Anderson.

My brother and sister-in-law gave me the craziest puzzle for Christmas.  It has only 500 pieces so I figured I could finish it up in an afternoon.  But, once I got started I had to work on it from the back to even make a little progress.  The back was stamped with 8 sections of letters A thru H.

It took me 3 days to complete and what I want to know is. . . how do you tell if an "H" is upside down or right side up?  It's a wooden puzzle so the little brown circles are knotholes.  Surprising, the "A" section was the hardest to complete.

And then when I finished I turned it over to reveal this goofy bird wearing boots or is it a person in a bird costume?  We'll never know.

Oh, and about a week ago someone crashed through our fence in back and fled the scene.  Thank goodness one of my son's was willing and had the know-how to fix it right away.  We live on a corner.  The side road goes straight and then makes a slight curve to right before a stop sign at our corner.

Well, whoever was driving the car was distracted and didn't make the curve.

Wish I knew who it was, some tired person coming home from the graveyard shift (it was dark and 6:30am), some youth who was texting, or just someone who didn't want to take the responsibility.

We continue to pray for snow, a cancellation so my husband can get in to see his surgeon before April, and the end of Covid.

This post sounds a little discouraging.  I don't mean for it to sound that way.  We are healthy, our kids live close by (and they like us), and we find things everyday to laugh about.

Your quilt is coming along so well--getting into quilting mode is really relaxing I think.
Oh sorry about your fence!! Amazing how some people just run away from responsibility for their actions...
We are supposed to be in a "snow flurry" day, but so far nary a flake has fallen...hugs, Julierose

I love the quilting on your Cheddarback quilt. I'm hoping to start quilting mine soon. I love jigsaw puzzles, but the one your sister-in-law got you would drive me crazy...lol Hugs

Cheddarback is coming along beautifully! As is your red and white house quilt. I do like the red and green floral print for your next block, maybe it will end up being your favorite house in the village! Seems like that driver would have some significant damage to the front end of the car, good that your son was able to do the repairs for you.

Your quilting on Children's Hour is fabulous. It makes me wish I hadn't tried to try to reproduce the original all the way down to the quilting.
Your house blocks look great. How fun to make a red and white quilt. You'll know about the floral fabric when you put it up with the others. How big are the blocks? And is your pattern the one from SLoL? (I think there's a house in that.)
The puzzle looks a challenge. I think the character on the front is adorable--almost a fairy tale character. Does the puzzle have a name?
How awful about your fence. What a blessing your son could fix it, and quickly.
All the things you're praying for sound good, probably especially a cancellation with your husband's surgeon. I'm not a fan of doctors but sometimes, the sooner the better is the best thing.

I so admire your dedication to hand quilting. I've had the same big quilt in the hoop for literally years!
Great looking house blocks. What size do they finish? How many do you think you will make? I have a few house blocks made in blue/cream, but there is still no definite plan.
Oh, my goodness, that puzzle is crazy--on the front and the back. I don't think I have seen a wooden puzzle with that many pieces. Can't believe you finished it in 3 days, with everything else you do! I put up a puzzle Saturday night, but only had time to sort out the edge pieces and put a few together. Sunday when the family was over my daughter, granddaughter and DIL made really good progress. Even hubby put in a few pieces today, and I have yet to do anything more than I did Saturday night.
What a scary thing to have happen in your yard. Did you hear the crash, or discover it later in the morning? Other than the crash perpetrator running off, I didn't think your post sounded down! I would be bummed about that, too.

Your puzzle bird is so cute! And I know what you mean about some quilts feeling interesting when you're quilting them. Others are a little more ho hum for whatever reason, I really don't know. Loved where you wrote that your kids like you. Such a blessing in this day and age! I think about that all the time with our four. We have friends whose children have cut them out of their life and it's dreadfully sad for them.

ON the contrary, I did not find your post discouraging. I too love those lines of hand quilting you are laying. Makes me feel I should be more creative with my stitching presently. I adore that house quilt and would jump in to make one but finishing two red quilts right now. My jigsaw is not as interesting as that one for sure.
How strange that someone would leave after causing such damage. Disappointing! But so happy it got easily fixed.

Your Cheddarback is looking great. There's nothing so pretty as hand quilting. I love your red houses. I have a house quilt sort of "kitted up" and ready to go but it's all back in Tokyo and will have to wait. The puzzle looks like trouble lol. How do you turn it over??? As for your fence, that must have really scared the driver who did it, but they (obviously) really should have stopped. It must have been a shock to hear that from inside the house. It's great that you live near your children - a blessing.

Oh my, your Children's Hour quilt is gorgeous! So, so much love has gone into this pretty. Love all those red houses, too. How annoying the person didn't stop after they crashed into your fence. Good your son could fix it up. Wonderful you can laugh despite all that's going on. Hoping your husband sees his surgeon soon.

Ongoing progress

I finished the center with the gifts and put on a double star border.  It now measure 48" square. Now I'm at a standstill. . .  I&#...
